It’s time for a new year with the Lake Houston Garden Club. The first meeting will be on Monday, September 12, and will feature our founder and favorite speaker, Gudrun Opperman, who will talk to us about weeds. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. with a social time and refreshments, with the program starting at 7 p.m., followed by a plant exchange.
Everyone knows the definition of a weed: something that is growing where it isn’t supposed to be. Within that definition, there are many categories. Is it invasive, aggressive, even beneficial? Can you eat it? How does it propagate, and what is the best way to get rid of it? Gudrun will bring her vast horticultural knowledge to this subject, and some examples. Members are welcome to bring examples of weeds from their garden for identification and advice.
Memberships are also up for renewal at the first meeting. Dues remains $25 for a single member and $30 for a family.
The OFE gardeners will also have a few jars of jams and sauces for sale at the meeting. Watch for a notice in your email about ways to order ahead of time.
