November Meeting: Brush up your Latin

The November meeting of the Lake Houston Gardeners will explore the basics of biological Latin:  what do those long plant names mean, and why do we have them in the first place?  The meeting will be Monday, November 14 at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Kingwood.  Social time begins at 6:30 p.m., the program gets underway at 7 p.m. followed by the monthly plant exchange.

Carolus Linnaus (not the speaker)

The speaker this month is Anne Mullins, a long time Lake Houston Gardeners member and a Texas Master Naturalist.  The talk is titled : “Biological Latin:  Just enough Latin to Go to the Nursery”.Her curiosity about the subject comes from many, many trips to nurseries,  wondering what those italicized words actually mean and where they came from.
